Learning Objectives
Today's lab will focus on team work and demos. There will also be time to consult about industrial design.
Team work and meeting
Use this lab time to do team work. Most of this time should be planning, prototyping, and testing. Part of this time will be going around and getting a grade for the milestones and demos listed in your Google Drive Folder, and then updating your plan for next Friday's lab.
The medium-term goal is to get ready for next Friday's alpha prototype.
We will go around to the teams and ask to show demos and milestones starting at 11:30a.
Industrial design consultation
Tony Hu will be in lab starting at 11a to talk with each team about their industrial design and their UI/UX. Please have relevant slides and drawings handy so you can explain your system to him, and so that he can provide input. He'll spend about 20-30 min with each team.
Alpha prototype
Here's the plan for next week's alpha prototype review. The alpha is meant to be a prototype demonstrating the essential functions of your system. In May we'll have the beta prototype, where we will focus on both form and function.
During the alpha, we will want each team to demonstrate the following items (we've provided a corresponding breakdown of how the grade will be assigned):
- the ability to collect, process, and display occupancy data [50%]
- Data should be displayed on a website, though it can be just a listing of data -- no fancy display is required here
- We will use EDS as our bus stop. When EDS is cleared of occupants, your system should display ~0 people
- When people enter EDS, your system should display a count of the number of people, and how long they have been there
- the ability to collect, process, and display environmental data [15%]
- Your system should display at least RH/T, and any other environmental sensors you have decided to include
- power and data budgets that meet specs [15%]
- Your team should have a filled-out up-to-date power and data budget that allows you to meet your specs, and will ultimately allow your system to meet the requirements
- Current BOM for the electronics [10%]
- Current system block diagram, firmware diagram, front-end wireframe, and industrial design [10%]
- For the wireframe and industrial design, these may be the same as for the final concept presentations if they have no changed since then. Remember, our focus at the alpha is on the functionality of the system, not how it looks
